Dreams and note assembly
Hi pal!
This week I did a spontaneous half-day trip to Paris to make sure I was still me (to get a new Swedish passport). I just had a few hours there but I knew exactly what to do with each hour to get the maximum payoff for this rather expensive last minute trip. In fact I tend to do just the same things every time I go there.
Visit an art supply shop, regardless if I actually need something.
Visit MUJI in Les Halles.
Buy onigiri in the Japanese neighborhood and eat it in the royal garden.
Eat at Aji Dulce, my favorite restaurant in Paris.
Visit an english book shop, either Shakespear & Company or Smith & Son.
I always try to squeeze in at least one of these things whenever I go to Paris. Tuesday was good because I managed to squeeze in 2.
A creative but chopped-up centipede alien
I assembled some recent Indie Notebook writing into a proper blog post. It’s about making a body of work, instead of letting your potential go to waste. The way I write about stuff here is very much about current events, this is a more evergreen version of those thoughts that make more sense as a dedicated essay or article.
Mini Notes
💤 Dream - Bugs on the bed
Tonight I dreamt that I was walking on the road towards my family’s cabin in Sweden, it was a warm summer day (as I imagine they’re having right now). The last part of the road winds through a village with lots of trees, right next to a lake. As I came up over a hill and around a bend, an anthill was placed partially onto the road. A bunch of ants were waiting for me and some bigger bugs (inspired by Hollow Knight) who held makeshift weapons. It frightened me and I woke up in a blink, next thing I know I’m staring down my bed and the big bugs are still standing there by my feet and staring, the ants rush over my body, but quickly fade away as I try to roll away from them.
It was the first time I had a hallucination. It was quite amazing to see something from my imagination actually stand in front of me and be alive. It would be so dope if I could control this. I should probably just be happy that I didn’t have a sleep paralysis or something scarier appear in the room though.
🌙 Album - Lonesome Dreams by Lord Huron
If you wanna stay on the dreamlike theme but using your ears, I really recommend that you give this album a shot. Lord Huron is one of my favorite artists of all time.
As far as I know there’s no band quite like them. Their music is super conceptual.
Each song on this album was based completely on a series of books by the author George Ranger Johnson. As a teen I loved this album so much I tried to hunt down these books, I just HAD to read them. Eventually I realized that the author was completely fictional and the books were nothing but mockups and short blurbs.
They keep cranking out bangers ever since. I would still love their tunes if it wasn’t for all this other stuff, it’s just icing on the cake. But it’s a damn good icing.
🔴 Youtube video - The SECRET World of Japan’s Puzzle Masters
I love everything about this. It’s about a guy who solves puzzles for a living on Youtube, he took a trip to Japan to meet some craftsmen who make the beautiful and genius wooden puzzles that he own.
Living peacefully in a village, with a beautiful workshop and with friends who share your passion, that’s the dream.
Do you remember any of your dreams recently?
Thank you for reading! Have a creative week.
