Hey there!
To kick things off with this newsletter I want to share a story of one of the first serious jobs I got. I was 18 years old and very active on tumblr, I shared comics and drawings regularly.
One day I got an email from Boom Studios, the company responsible for the comic book version of Adventure Time as well as other Cartoon Network shows. They were about to serialise Uncle Grandpa into comics and wondered if I would like to contribute to the first issue.
I was not very confident working with such a big client. I had done some commissions, like drawing portraits of peoples’ Minecraft skins. I jumped into it anyway with no knowledge aside from how to draw with my computer tablet.
Read the blog for the full story from my perspective.
I didn’t want to share the whole comic in the blog (not sure about copyright laws on that). But they actually used my story as a preview of the comic series in some press-releases, so you can read my part for free if you want. I can’t say I’m very proud of the way the comic holds up now, but it’s fun to see how far I have come.
Until next time!
