Hallå my pals!
Jonas here with another issue of Indie Notebook to get some ideas out of my noggin, and to inspire you to do the same.
This weekend I went to showcase Surmount at Indie Game Lyon with my partner (thank you Hélo). It’s quite hard to pitch a game to a stranger, even harder in a language that I’m not fluent in. I think they got what I meant, hehe.
Last week’s issue was lengthy. So to balance it out I will do an exercise where I try to summarize one of my favorite movies as concisely as possible, this will be the shortest Indie Notebook issue yet. Beware of spoilers.
Lost in Translation summary
An aging movie star and a young philosophy graduate meet in a hotel on the other side of the globe, they both feel detached from the world and misunderstood by the people around them. Even though their romance is short and non-physical it has a profound impact on them both.
Extra-Mini Notes
📝 Spire Confusion: “Gimmicks are memorable, but they are gimmicks.” Gimmicks are for people on the outside, they don’t do much for the people on the inside. Not sure I agree or see what it actually means, but it’s intriguing.
💌 The Flash Game Loop: A lovely, simple breakdown of how the spinoff to Minit is structured.
🔴 Life is not a problem to be solved: Something I’ve thought about recently. One of those videos I want to rewatch. And which also makes me want to watch the movie it’s about.
Thank you once again for reading Indie Notebook!
Take care and have a creative week.
Cool set-up with the shoes and everything. Looking forward to climbing Mount Om!!
I haven’t seen the movie but have heard about it from time to time. It is partly famous for its enigmatic ending. That’s about what I know.
