Took a little break but I'm back
Hi pal!
Not sure if anybody noticed but I decided to not publish a newsletter last week, I also took my first long break from writing in a long while. I had family over and decided to take it cool and not stress about it.
I think I’m too anal about sticking to my writing routine. Lately I’m more loose with what I pass as “writing.” Up until now I only wanted the writing to be Indie Notebook stuff, but now I’m also writing stories and some songs. Feels like it helps keep it fun and varied.
The point is to put thoughts into the world.
Stuck in the world, free in the head
I shared this piece a few weeks ago, but I had not drawn anything for it yet. Now it’s up on the blog with this hairy lizard drawing.
“I spent more of my conscious time in public transport seats than in my own room.”
Mini Notes
📝 Article/interview - An oral history of Lilo and Stitch
Lilo & Stitch is the best Disney movie in my opinion. Both artistically and storytelling. In this interview they said this about Lilo’s voice actress and Lilo…
“Whether she was like Lilo in real life or not, I don’t know. But she had this sort of matter-of-fact quality. She was living in her own world that made complete sense to her, and why don’t adults understand this, for crying out loud? Lilo withheld a lot of feelings…”
When I read this I remembered how much I felt for Lilo when I was a kid. Might be my earliest memory of really relating to a character. She’s so real.
🧨 Browser Game - Mine Sorter X3
A quick and fun game that you can play in the web browser. I love games where you sort stuff.
🍄 Movie - The Super Mario Movie
I went in with low expectations and high hopes on this since licensed movies usually suck. The first half was VERY good. Mario and Luigi was very lovable, the setup felt like it could have been a Pixar movie. Somewhere in the middle the rest of it turned into an advertisement. I think the writers had a different idea for it but was forced to change it for business reasons. Such a shame! First half was so sweet though, still worth seeing it just to get a glimpse of their lives and situation.
Instead of always demanding myself to be productive, I think I’m gonna be more intentional with taking breaks from my creative endeavors more often.
Have a creative week!
