I like the idea of an ASMR simulator -- I don't know if this is already a genre.

A game like Breath of the Wild had such a great sound design which this reminds me of. It was such a huge part of transporting the player into that world. Sound is such an important aspect of games and movies. I could imagine something like this potentially working.

To be a bit self-contradictory here though, I often find myself playing with no or reduced sound (so I can listen to podcasts or whatnot). So, personally, I'm not sure it would be a great fit for me -- it would depend on the "gameplay".

Good job on your quick work on it! That's awesome and must make it more tempting to go try these ideas out :)

Honestly I don't think ASMR exists as a genre in games. Genres in games are so much more focused on design rather than sensations.

Hmm I wonder how many people are like you and play a podcast while playing. I do that sometimes too but it's more for Tetris and Rocket League. The way I presented it here makes it seem like that kinda game that doesn't take too much of your brainpower. I think this just means it has to enjoyable even without the sound..?

It should be a genre, I think. In other words, I think you might have hit upon something here.

The closest thing to this type of game that I am aware of is a 20 year old Nintendo DS game called "Electroplankton" (it has its own stage in Super Smash Bros. actually). That game might be more music focused though + I'm doubtful that the DS was able to produce ASMR level sound.

Honestly, my sense would be that rather than trying to appease a soundless player like me, you should either ignore me or, if you're up for it, make a game that is special enough and so tied to sound that I'm willing to put on my headphones, just for this game.

Sort of like how I'm willing to go through all the steps it takes to play Ring Fit Adventure -- plugging the Joy Con into the Pilates ring controller, etc. Or a game like Kid Icarus for the 3DS which was meant to be played with the 3DS on a stand that came with the game -- on one hand, a game like that would have to win you over since it requires some extra steps, and on the other hand, a game like that can really give you the sense that you're playing something special.

It may be a bit much to compare these examples to simply turning up the volume, but I somehow feel there's an overlap there -- at least for a player like myself.

Btw, for a game like this, I would imagine that the ASMR almost could be the gameplay, if that makes sense. But in that experience, maybe there could also be things to collect or mechanics to discover or something; a little bit to chew on besides the ASMR. That's how I could imagine a game like this being laid out.
