Very fun :) Sometimes I utilize the opposite of this effect to ensure I find *only* excitable people! I'll add extra steps to cull out the less dedicated people. For example, when I was making applications for game dev mentorships, I required people to be thorough by my choice of questions, and most people did not pass. I also have a separate website where I write my thoughts, *not* on twitter or other low-resistance platforms. But I imagine artists who need exposure (dedicated or not - cast a wide net) are well-off by utilizing this effect :)
I actually used to only look for links to click. Let me rephrase.
I used to love RSS. It brought sites and stuff people made to me. I loved RSS so much that when everyone moved over to social media, I tried as much as possible to get the links and images and videos they shared there to 1 easy to look at page.
For a long while I used paper.li to get all the links and images and videos from twitter and put them in a newspaper overview.
The most shared articles at the top, the rest of the articles sorted by topic and listing their hashtags, all the images next to eachother in 1 place, all the videos next to eachother.
It was... FANTASTIC.
So great I would only go to twitter if I wanted to reply to something.
Unfortunately a lot of twitter became bots, then paper.li redesigned itself for the worse and killed those specific function I liked, then of course twitter was bought by a bad man and ruined even further.
I'm still stuck on instagram, but ooooohhh, I miss the days I just had all the links with previews next to eachother sorted by most shared and topic, and all the images all in 1 gallery.
It was so good.
I still have an RSS feed for webcomics, and I still use rss links in my podcatcher of choice. But slowly every platform and tool enshitifies.
I use Podkicker Pro, it's pretty simple, works primarily with a download and then listen setup (rather than streaming although it is possible) and good for someone who likes more hands on management and not lots of bloated user interface.
The search function usually finds the podcasts I'm looking for, or you can import using the rss feeds url / apple url. Spotify is often tricky or not possible though (but I really dislike silos that try to eat a whole medium). Also Patreon walling off content for subscribers of course can't get in there, but that content is usually the exception, not the norm for me.

That’s cool! I didn’t consider someone might want that effect ahah
I bet if you are popular enough adding restrictions like that might make some people want the thing that’s hidden EVEN MORE.
haha that's fun :)
Good thoughts and well put.
Also, it's so good to have Space Deer back :)
Thank you, it feels great to be back! (I say as if I’m Space Deer, maybe I am)

I feel your pain with these tools becoming unusable/ruined! And I totally see where you’re coming from. I appreciate hearing your perspective on this!
What do you use to catch your podcasts nowadays?
