Hallå pals!
Jonas here with another issue of Indie Notebook to get some ideas out of my noggin, and to inspire you to do the same.
I have some exciting news to share today!
On the 16th of April I will start running Space Deer as a webcomic! With two comic strips per week. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, 08:00 CEST. I’ll post them a bit all over the place, on my twitter, tumblr, instagram, Webtoon, Tapas and on the brand new Space Deer website.
Maybe I’ll set up a Patreon or something as well? Still thinking about all that. I started reading Dotcom Secrets, a book about business, to try to get smarter about this. So I’ve got lots of ideas, but there are so many different ways to go about it, I’m a little bit lost at the moment.
I’m not sure how long I’ll be doing this, but I’m committing to go on for at least a year and see what happens and how it feels.
I’m so thrilled to share this with you all, I’ve already got a couple weeks worth of strips queued up! I’m so happy that I’m finally giving this fuzzy lil fella a shot. It feels like a proper adventure for me too cause I don’t know where this is gonna go, neither in terms of story or practically. Something about this feels so right though, like I need to do this.
Mini Notes
🔴 Youtube video - 10 Years on Mars: The Full Documentary
I didn’t realize that we’ve already had rovers on Mars for more than 10 years. They’ve lived quite a life up there. After watching this I don’t have a doubt left that there was water up there at some point. Which to me must mean there was life in some form too, at least some bacteria.
It’s nice and kinda ambient to have on in the background while drawing Space Deer strips.
🕹️ Game - Axiom Verge
This metroidvania feels like it really respects the original Metroid game (even though I haven’t played that much of that). It’s very simple and sparse on dialogue. It just took a few minutes and I felt like I was IN the game very quickly. It was super easy to get hooked on and get into. I’ve just played a few hours but I really like it so far.
🔴 Youtube video - Akira Toriyama Full interview + drawing
I was surprised to hear Toriyama say that he only started drawing manga because he needed money, he was really struggling to find any other type of work. It’s unusual to hear an artistic person talk that way. Pretty sure he found passion for it along the way though, I don’t see how you could make something like Dragon Ball otherwise.
And I love that he doesn’t build up his drawings from basic shapes when he sketches. He just goes straight into the details. Proper amateur style. He says he doesn’t have the patience to do it any other way. Same for me.
Thank you for reading Indie Notebook! The best way to support me right now is by sharing this newsletter with a friend.
Take care and have a creative week.
I love the space deer character, he's so cute! Good luck on the launch!
Congrats Jonas, I know you’ve been working on that a long time. I’m excited to see what it turns into. Good luck!
