What an exciting thing to be ready to start a new adventure with Space Deer. It’s gonna be great to have a steady flow of strips.

Since I can’t seem to shut up about Alan Moore, I’ll just say that writing regular strips or short stories is what he credits with teaching him how to write stories — it is the best way to learn it, according to him.

Axiom Verge is a game I’ve heard about many times but I’ve never given it a shot. I tend to just replay a Metroid game, when I feel like diving into the genre. I have been playing through Hollow Knight recently though.

It's super exciting!

I give you full permission to talk as much as you want about Alan Moore or anything you want here Hasse! I didn't know he made strips as well, or maybe he didn't(?). I see the point though. Strips might be the shortest type of story you could possibly write. It's a really fun exercise and I'm sensing some kind of improvement already I think.

I played a bit of Metroid 1 this weekend and did enjoy it. I got a bit stuck but I think I'll dive back in later and see if I can move deeper. I LOVE Hollow Knight, I'm really looking forward to Silksong.

Oh boy, I hope you won't regret giving me permission to do that -- hehe. He actually did write and draw a strip, called "Maxwell the Magic Cat". I have never read it, besides a couple of strips here and there. It is one of the more rare Alan Moore works there are, especially Vol. 4 of the collection which is considered a holy grail of Moore collecting.

I think you got what he meant. He described it as being forced to become familiar with the way stories work, or something like that.

You may be one of the reasons I decided to dive into Hollow Knight. Generally, I just heard great things about it and that it sort of represents a new era of Metroidvanias. I'm at the final boss now and it is no doubt a very impressive game. The worldbuilding is next level. Metroid is still my favorite but I'm glad I gave it a go!

Regarding Metroid 1, I'm glad you are enjoying it but I will say this: Metroid 1 and 2 are generally considered to be pretty archaic. Metroid Zero Mission is a remake of Metroid 1 and I consider it my favorite GBA game as well as possibly my favorite remake. It's awesome. Unfortunately, I think it's still unavailable on the Switch.

(Metroid 2 was remade for the 3DS, which is a game I personally really like but some feel it could be better. There is a fanmade remake which is super well-liked, as well)

Damn, Maxwell seems kinda punk and text heavy for a comic strip. Do you have any of those strips?

I think what made me realize that metroidvanias are fun is Guacamelee 1. It's quite fun but I don't remember it as fondly as Hollow Knight. I feel like everything in Hollow Knight is next level. So perfectly crafted all around (if you ask me).

And that's good to know Metroid 1 and 2 are considered "archaic", then I won't be too harsh on myself if I end up not getting further into Metroid 1. I might just look up that remake instead. That's very good to know!

I am playing a GBA Metroid on 3DS as well but I can't recall the name of it right now. Maybe it is that one, hehe

I don't have any of the Maxwell books, no. Alan Moore is very subversive in his writing, generally speaking. It makes sense if the strips seem kind of punk.

Guacamelee is another game/series I haven't tried. There are just so many games out there. I still have yet to play through the Ori games as well.

I agree, Hollow Knight is next level. What makes me less than a perfect fit for the game though, I think, is the fact that my personal taste very much leans away from escapism. On some level, I think Hollow Knight is (beautifully) designed to be a game about getting lost in a world worth getting lost in. It just so happens that this isn't my favorite thing. The game has so much else going for it though that it has been great regardless (the flashback near the end with the ascend from the abyss was very beautiful, as a small example).

The GBA Metroid on 3DS is Metroid Fusion (the 4th in the series).

I hope you get a chance to play Metroid Zero Mission some time in the future. It is a pretty perfect welcome to the series, and a perfect welcome to me when I decide to play through the series from start to finish.
