happy to encounter Oki Sato quote here. i also happend to watch and read 5 videos and 3 articles of his interviews just after I discovered him. he makes many good tangable gadgets but my favorite work of him is 50 Manga Chairs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zl-qsLBhXgk which is very conseptual and almost not pragmatic at all.

Man I love those chairs! So many fun ideas, I love how it touches on and demonstrates both design, comics and animation. I'll probably add this to Mini Notes next week.

I'd love to know if you remember any one of those articles or videos as being particularly good. I enjoyed this one: https://youtu.be/c3TPbj2_Xjg

Thanks for chiming in Yongmin!

The book looks adorable, and the cover art is stunning! To me, 10 euros sounds worth the physical experience of reading it — an experience I desire — though international shipping is always worrying ;)

You have a fascinating view on tech. I’ve been thinking about history and gossip lately: our current day may not be much different than the past, but the past is painted in great stories, speeches, and heirlooms because the less meaningful things (boring things we deal with day-to-day) get forgotten. But as you mentioned, mass production and electronics are new things that may make the present much different than the past. And we get to make our own future anyway!

(Also, a fun example of a sentimental heirloom-esque item may be these very expensive hand-crafted globes that are tailored to the person ordering: https://bellerbyandco.com/ https://youtu.be/ymjWeQhic0s)

I like artisan goods! I have a simple, beautiful wooden clock that decorates my desk with much sentimentality. I scare myself with how sentimental I get — simple things like my cozy warm lamp hold high esteem in my head :)

I have to say the Slab-O-Wood sounds like an excellent game controller.

Have a nice day!

Fun that you're interested in the book! I was worried about shipping costs too. I'll look it up and let you know how much it would be.

Very good point about the past being painted by great stories. That's definitely part of it.

Personalized globes are such a fun idea! That makes me almost want to make one myself or at least buy a cheap one and put some pins on it. And holy shit it's so much work to paint an entire globe that size..!

I remember you holding up that clock briefly during our call! It looked really cool. I'd love to get a closer look at those objects.

One day I'd like to make a real game controller out of wood, it would be so nice to hold.

Thanks for your comment Ash! Hope you're doing well!

That’s all very well, thank you a lot, and I wish you good times!

(Speaking of sentimentality reminds me it’s the stories that bring objects to life — perhaps I ought to deeply invest practice in my storytelling ability, and then I can reminisce to others about my love for simple things :) )
